Description

This is the ultimate expedition voyage – 18 leisurely days starting in Darwin and ending in vibrant Singapore. In between you will sample the diversity of the Indonesian archipelago with excursions to Ujung Kulon National Park, the historic caldera of Anak Krakatau, and the rarely visited Karimunjawa National Park. You will experience a bustling Indonesian town – Sumenep – with opportunities to shop and eat locally. Enjoy opportunities to snorkel and dive over lush tropical reefs and swim from white sand beaches.

BUILT FOR DISCOVERY The Coral Adventurer features our trademark dual ‘Xplorer’ tenders cradled on a hydraulic platform slung off the back of the ship, enabling our guests to go ashore in comfort and ease.  The shallow draft of the ship enables us to go closer to shore than larger ships. Together with our renowned expedition team, our new ship will offer the most advanced expedition capabilities of any small ship afloat. BUILT FOR COMFORT With active stabilisers dampening sea motion, mostly balcony cabins, and interiors designed with the colours and textures of tropical Queensland, the Coral Adventurer is a comfortable ship.  She features promenade decks, generous communal areas that accommodate all guests, a passenger elevator, and an open kitchen where you can observe our chefs whip up small batch cuisine from locally sourced ingredients. BUILT FOR PERSONAL SERVICE The Coral Adventurer will continue our proud tradition of Australian flagged vessels with friendly and professional Australian crew.  Our onboard atmosphere remains refreshingly informal and intimate.  Take your seat at our bridge lounge, chat with the captain at your leisure or accompany our chefs on a market tour. Itinerary



Day 1 - DAY 1: DARWIN
Embark Coral Adventurer at 4:30pm and depart the harbour at 6pm. Enjoy Captain’s welcome drinks.
Day 2 - DAY 2: AT SEA
A day of relaxation onboard as we cruise across the Timor Sea. Reminisce about adventures enjoyed with the Expedition Team and new friends and join the Captain and crew for Captain’s farewell drinks.
Day 3 - DAY 3: KUPANG
Swim in the tropical waters of this beautiful Indonesian marine park. Visit the bustling township of Kupang, which is steeped in history (Captain Bligh landed here after his epic voyage from Tonga).
Day 4 - DAY 4: PULAU ALOR
Enjoy some of Nusa Tenggara’s best snorkelling and diving over world-class coral sea gardens. Learn about indigenous tribal groups renowned for their Moko drum culture and visit a traditional village built halfway up the mountainside.
Day 5 - DAY 5: KELIMUTU NATIONAL PARK
Land on Flores and take a scenic drive to 1,639 metre Kelimutu volcano > local guides lead us up the slopes of the volcano, with regular stops to admire the view of the tri-coloured lakes > photography opportunities abound
Day 6 - DAY 6: WERA VILLAGE, SUMBAWA
At this village in Sumbawa we will witness traditional boat building techniques and learn how they are crafted by hand. Hear the stories and play with the village children. We will also see the famous traditional checkered cloth being woven right underneath the village houses. You may be lucky enough to weave the cloth yourself and certainly you will have the opportunity to purchase some directly from the artisans.
Day 7 - DAY 7: RINCA ISLAND
We awake at Rinca Island, part of the Komodo Islands. The main attraction here is of course to see the ancient Komodo Dragons. Our group divides to explore the island, taking turns enjoying water activities or searching for the iconic Dragon.
Day 8 - DAY 8: SATONDA ISLAND
Satonda Island is a small un-inhabited volcanic island off the north coast of Sumbawa, separated by a narrow strait from Tambora, the site of the largest and most devastating volcanic eruption in human history. In 1815 Tambora erupted expelling into the atmosphere twice as much material as the later Krakatoa in 1833. For the small island of Satonda, there is a lasting effect. The eruption was so great that it breached the rim of Satonda crater and dumped millions of gallons of sea water there, leaving the crater lake filled with salt-water instead of fresh. Satonda’s beach is remarkable because a major portion of its sediment consists of pebbles of pumice – a foamy volcanic glass, so light that it floats on water. This hidden gem offers quiet nature walk, some pristine white beaches, wonderful snorkelling, and birdwatching.
Day 9 - DAY 9: SUMENEP
Sumenep is Madura Island’s most interesting town, situated just north of the eastern tip of Java. The history, culture and architecture of Sumenep can be seen in the Palace/Kraton Museum (such as a 500 kg hand-written Quran), which include relics of the Hindu kingdoms.Explore the historic Sumenep Palace and the museum. Marvel at Sumenep Jamik Mosque with its distinctive architecture. Visit Kalianget Old Town, with its relics of a salt factory, and colonial architecture built by the colonial Dutch government. Sumenep Square is a well-presented park, Taman Adipura, a horticulturalist’s delight; and the night markets provide a wide range of culinary specialties. Visitors can obtain fine batik cloth, wood carvings, Dutch antiques – browsing through shops and stalls is fascinating.
Day 10 - DAY 10: BAWEAN
Discover the mountainous inland Lake Kastoba, an idyllic retreat in the heart of Bawean Island. Visit the Bawean Deer Sanctuary and cruise to isolated Gili Noko for water activities.
Day 11 - DAY 11: KURIMANJAWA NATIONAL PARK
Uncover Karimunjawa Archipelago’s pristine beaches and coral reefs and join in numerous water activities or hike the low hills through lush forests.We visit Pulau Kecil, a privately owned island which the owner allows us to visit. This remote location has an excellent great coral reef for snorkelling and a beautiful beach with shady areas for relaxation.
Day 12 - DAY 12: AT SEA AND HMAS PERTH
Celebrate Australia Day and end the day with sunset at HMAS Perth. Our Senior Master Captain Gary will host our remembrance service with the Coral Adventurer positioned over the resting place of the HMAS Perth.
Day 13 - DAYS 13 & 14: UJUNG KULON NATIONAL PARK
Ujung Kulon, one of Indonesia’s best known national parks, lies on the SW corner of the island of Java. It is one of the last remaining natural forests on Java and one of very few areas offering a profile of sea-shore to mountain top tropical vegetation. The beautiful isolated beaches that cover the coastline are among Ujung Kulon’s best-kept secrets. While snorkelling, it is spectacular to see the variety of tropical fish in the clear blue crystal water.The park holds well over 700 species of plant life, of which 57 are classified as rare. The rocky shores, mangrove swamps, mud flats, sea grass beds, coral reefs, and sea trenches provide diverse and fascinating insights into the underwater world.Ujung Kulon’s tropical climate makes travel pleasant in this World Heritage listed site, which is also home to the highly endangered Java rhinoceros. The large array of wildlife is fascinating, with some sighted daily while others are rarely seen. What is remarkable is that this park remains a pristine haven of nature on Java, one of the most densely populated islands in the world.
Day 14 - DAYS 14 & 15: KRAKATOA
Krakatau (Krakatoa) is a black volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. The name is used for the island group, the main island, and the volcano as a whole. It has erupted repeatedly, massively, and with disastrous consequences throughout recorded history. The best-known eruption culminated in a series of massive explosions on August 26-27, 1883, which were among the most violent volcanic events in modern times. The sound of the explosion was heard as far away as Alice Springs, in Central Australia; fine ash reached as far as New York City, while the resultant tidal waves which caused complete destruction in the surrounding coastal areas. Despite the devastating effects, the disappearance of the gigantic Krakatoa also meant the birth of small islands in its place, including the present Anak Krakatau (Son of Krakatoa). From both West Java’s west coast, and from Sumatra’s Lampung Province, this young and very active volcano is clearly visible. Today the volcano is under 24-hour visual and electronic surveillance from Java. Here guests can climb up Anak Krakatau and also enjoy water activities.
Day 15 - DAY 16: LENGKUAS ISLAND, BELITUNG
Lengkuas Island, Belitung is a very pretty little island with a lighthouse. Guests can climb all the way to the top and be accorded a beautiful view. Visit a local eatery and be welcomed by local dancers. Rock-hop ‘painted beach boulders’ and explore undeveloped beachfront. The warmth of the locals and the beautiful idyllic setting is how we say good bye to Indonesia
Day 16 - DAY 17: AT SEA
Today guests can recap their adventures with photo sharing and final lectures by our Expedition Team. In the evening enjoy Captain’s Farewell Drinks.
Day 17 - DAY 18: SINGAPORE
Coral Adventurer will arrive into Singapore at 8:00am, and farewell your captain, crew, and fellow guests.
