Highlights
  • Experience the best of both worlds: the timeless landscapes of Antarctica and the storied history of the Falkland Islands.
  • Enjoy the freedom to customise your trip with a wide range of optional activities. In addition to regular Zodiac excursions, choose to explore the water on a kayaking expedition, sign up for a photography masterclass, rejuvenate with some onboard yoga and massage, or camp out overnight like a true polar explorer
  • Whereas most polar expeditions of this kind have a crew-to-passenger ratio of ten, fifteen or twenty to one, Peregrine expeditions on the Ocean Endeavour have an expedition crew member for every 8 passengers for a greater personal touch
  • Our experienced leaders have made hundreds of polar voyages. Learn about the history, geography and wildlife of the Antarctic from experts in marine biology, glaciology and history
  • Rest assured you will leave only footprints behind. Your Antarctica expedition is carbon offset, and we serve only sustainably-sourced seafood, avoid single-use plastics and use biodegradable and phosphate-free cleaning products on board
  • This is the perfect adventure for solo travellers, with single cabins at the same price as some twins

Itinerary

No two Polar voyages are the same and this is part of the excitement of travelling in these remote regions. Weather, ice conditions and wildlife will all affect where your ship is able to access, and most importantly, where your Expedition Team think you will get the best possible experience from your trip. On board, daily updates are given to advise what the specific itinerary will be for the next day based on local conditions. Published itineraries cannot be guaranteed but an amazing voyage full of adventure and once-in-a-lifetime experiences is guaranteed.

Day 1 - Buenos Aires
Your Antarctic adventure begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s lively capital. You can arrive at any time and independently transfer to the group hotel – accommodation is included for the night. After checking in, meet some of your fellow travellers and be briefed by the expedition team about the journey ahead. There’s plenty to see and do if you arrive into BA early too. Perhaps explore the neighbourhood of La Boca, pay your respects to Eva Peron at the famous Recoleta Cemetery or search through the antique markets of San Telmo. If all else fails, sample some of the steak and wine Argentina is so famous for.
Day 2 - Buenos Aires – Embarkation Day
Enjoy a free morning exploring the sights of Buenos Aires, or take advantage of the time to pick up any essentials you may have left at home. In the afternoon you'll transfer to the Ocean Endeavour, your floating home for the next 10 or so days, and wave goodbye to Buenos Aires. The Ocean Endeavour will follow the Rio de la Plata then turn south down the coast towards the Falklands. Tonight, join your shipmates at dinner and drinks and get to know the other travellers who will be sharing this incredible journey with you.
Day 3-5 - At Sea
One of the major perks of a journey aboard the Ocean Endeavour is its full health and wellness centre, which includes a gym, heated salt-water pool and saunas. Yoga classes are also available to keep you entertained and feeling fresh while at sea. Alternatively, the reading lounges are a great place to pass an afternoon at sea and learn some more about the Falklands, Antarctica and its surrounding areas.
Day 6-8 - Falkland Islands
Welcome to the Falklands! We’ll be exploring the two main islands on Zodiac excursions and daily landings. Wildlife sightings around the Falkland Islands will likely include at least three species of penguin and two endemic bird species – Cobb’s wren and the flightless steamer duck. The expedition team will educate you on the local flora and fauna so you will know what you’re looking for and other potential landing sites include West Point Island, Saunders Island, Sea Lion Island and Bleaker Island. Though the wildlife is impressive, it's not the Falkland's only drawcard. These islands have a rich history and distinctly British culture with pubs and buildings that could've come straight from an Enid Blyton novel. Spend some time exploring Stanley, the territory's capital, which is located on the island of East Falkland. Its museum has a wealth of information concerning the 1982 Falklands War and the region's Antarctic and maritime history. The landing sites visited will depend on the ship's location and weather conditions, but for information on potential landing sites please visit: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/au/antarctica-landing-sites There’s also a chance to participate in optional kayaking adventures (at an additional cost). These trips are taken in small groups and some experience is essential. Beginners interested in kayaking should first take an introductory course prior to the voyage, which includes how to perform a wet exit. We also strongly recommend that regardless of your experience, you take part in some kayaking practice prior to the voyage to ensure that you are comfortable on the water.
Day 9 - At Sea
As our explorations of the Falklands draw to a close, we cruise further south towards Ushuaia, Argentina. This is a chance to further enjoy the onboard facilities, share photographs with fellow shipmates, or simply enjoy some rest and relaxation. As this is a combination trip, some of your shipmates will be disembarking in Ushuaia, so make the most of your final evening together – live it up and toast what's been an incredible journey to the Falklands. Best of all, you've still got Antarctica to look forward to!
Day 10 - Ushuaia
The Ocean Endeavour will dock in Ushuaia this morning, giving you the opportunity to take a walk around town and pick up any extra layers or toiletries for the second leg of the journey. Ushuaia, which is the gateway to Tierra del Fuego National Park and the southernmost town in the world, has a fascinating maritime history as well as plenty of shops and restaurants. Check out the museum for the lowdown on this port's storied history then rejoin the Ocean Endeavour in the afternoon to depart once more. Cruise through the Beagle Channel, named for Darwin's historic ship, and keep an eye out for dolphins and seabirds as you go. Wave goodbye to South America – the next land you'll see is Antarctica.
Day 11-12 - At Sea
The time has come to cross the Drake Passage, the legendary body of water named after English explorer Sir Francis Drake. If the conditions are right, enjoy some time out on deck to spot dolphins, orcas or perhaps albatross. If the waters are a little rough, the Ocean Endeavour is equipped with some seriously lush facilities for you to take advantage of. As well as safety briefings, a comprehensive lecture program will run throughout the journey delivered by experts in Antarctica’s history, geology and biology. With any luck we’ll make it to land by early evening on Day 4 – a moment that always brings much excitement.
Day 13-16 - Antarctic Peninsula
The adventure truly begins once the Antarctic Convergence is left in your wake and exchanged for four incredible days of exploring the Antarctic Peninsula. Stare wide-eyed at glaciers, mountains and an unimaginable array of wildlife as the sheer magnitude and rawness of the area comes to light. Every day is a new adventure, and you’ll explore ice-filled bays and channels as well as Antarctica itself on Zodiac excursions and by foot. While the landscapes will no doubt take your breath away, Antarctica is all about the wildlife. Visit penguin rookeries, spot humpback and minke whales and look out for leopard seals, all while calving glaciers crack through the immense silence. The landing sites visited will depend on the ship's location and weather conditions, but for information on potential landing sites please visit: intrepidtravel.com/au/antarctica-landing-sites
Day 17-18 - At Sea
Say goodbye to the Antarctic Peninsula as we begin our return leg to Ushuaia. Take the opportunity to share photographs with fellow travellers, use your now expert skills in wildlife spotting and enjoy the final lectures from your polar experts. It’s also a great opportunity to make use of the Ocean Endeavour’s health and wellness facilities, including its saunas, spa, heated pool, yoga classes and gym.
Day 19 - Ushuaia – Disembarkation Day
Your Antarctic adventure comes to an end today. If you do have some extra time, the landscapes around Ushuaia are definitely worth checking out, if only for a day or two. Otherwise, transfer to the airport for your onwards flight and be prepared to recount your adventure to endless friends and family.
