Day 1 - Day 1 Individual travel arrangements to Hamburg
Overnight stay on boardThe winds of spring bring a taste of the sea and give flight to your zeal for travel. Stroll through HafenCity and on to Hamburg’s landmark, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, before the HANSEATIC inspiration sets sail in the night. A short cruise full of discoveries awaits.
Day 2 - Day 2 Hamburg
Departure 3.00 hrs Daytime passage through the Kiel CanalExplore the new expedition class, find your favourite spot or get a change of perspective on the bow tour as you pass through the Kiel Canal. Enjoy the delightfully varied landscape when the Schleswig-Holstein marsh and the Eider-Treene Depression pass by like a natural theatre backdrop. The historic steel construction of the Rendsburg High Bridge is equally impressive. Here, every ship is welcomed by the flag and anthem of its homeland.
Day 3 - Day 3 Heringsdorf, Usedom
From 8.00 to 14.00 hrs Once the HANSEATIC inspiration has passed the lock near Kiel, the light-blue Baltic Sea will open up before your eyes. In the invigorating May air, Usedom wakes from its winter slumber. The beach promenade in Heringsdorf is a great place for a stroll, the resort’s famous architecture lending it an unmistakably elegant look. On a walk to neighbouring Ahlbeck, the stylish villas dating back to the mid 19th century line up like shimmering pearls. Get active in the sun and explore Usedom on an e-bike*. The cycle route takes you to Bansin and into the island’s interior, a peaceful landscape of salt flats, the calm Achterwasser lagoon, dune pines and beech forests. With a view of the silent and beautiful Bohmke nature reserve, its reed belts a breeding ground for black-headed gulls and common terns, you will reach the moated Mellenthin castle. Dating from 1575, the castle – whose name means “midpoint” – sits in the middle of the island of Usedom.
Day 4 - Day 4 Gdansk/Poland
From 8.30 to 19.00 hrsThe Crane Gate, landmark of the old Hanseatic city of Gdansk, rises up from the colourful row of houses on Motlawa promenade. The city grew rich on maritime trade and flourished in the 16th and 17th centuries, the golden Hanseatic age. After it was devastated in the Second World War, true artists restored the magnificent buildings and ensembles of Gothic, Renaissance and baroque architecture. A city walk of Gdansk with the sounds of the organ in Oliwa* will take you along the central hubs of Gdansk’s Main City: Long Lane, Gdansk Promenade and Mariacka Street. A hint of old Gdansk remains in the Green Gate in the Flemish mannerist style, richly decorated houses and the typical raised fronts of the merchants’ houses above the old cobbled streets. St Mary’s Basilica, one of the world’s oldest brick churches, towers over the city’s silhouette. At the top of the hour, the Apostles emerge from the astronomical clock to remind us of the ceaseless passing of time. In Oliwa, take all the time in the world to listen to the impressive sounds of 7,876 organ pipes in the former Cistercian monastery. Flapping storks and trilling swallows provide the soundtrack to an outing south of Gdansk. Malbork Castle*, Europe’s largest Gothic brick building, sits regally on the shores of River Nogat. The 13th-century complex was once the seat of the mighty Teutonic Order. Badly damaged in the Second World War, the restored castle and museum – which features exhibitions of ceramics, weapons and amber – are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 5 - Day 5 Binz/Rugen
From 13.00 to 19.00 hrs With steep, romantic coasts, sandy beaches and wonderful forests, Rugen has been a popular summer destination since the late 19th century. The splendid architecture in the resort of Binz dates from this period. The white art nouveau villas stand to attention along the promenade with their carved ornamental lattice work and decorative metal balconies. A journey from Binz on the “Rasender Roland” to Putbus provides additional nostalgia: Germany’s oldest narrow-gauge railway has been traversing this route for over 100 years. In 1810, Prince Wilhelm Malte I. of Putbus made sure that the royal city was built in the classical style strictly according to plan. The sharp, rugged cliffs immortalised by Caspar David Friedrich in his famous painting have long since fallen victim to erosion, the limestone coast constantly altered by the wind and weather. In Jasmund National Park, Rugen’s striking landmarks can be found in an area known as the Stubbenkammer, derived from the Slavic words for “step” and “rock”. Explore these impressive rocks on a short walk to the Konigsstuhl cliff and a walk to the Viktoriasicht viewpoint.
