Description
Idyllic sailing along the trade winds
In winter and spring the Caribbean trade winds offer perfect speeds and consistency and deliver wonderful
air and water temperatures. The many hours spent out at sea are a real joy for the tall ship.
French style on the ÎIes des Saintes
The ÎIes des Saintes give such a welcoming first impression, though the historical Fort Napoléon that towers over the main island is a reminder of less peaceful times. This small town’s promenade is perfect for taking a stroll, and the savoir-vivre of life here unfolds against a backdrop of the glowing pastel colours of the Caribbean.
The jet-set island of St Barths
Although many like to call it “St Barths” for short, the island’s official name is St Barthélemy. Having seen
several different owners, the land was finally bought by France in 1877 and is now firmly in the hands of the jetset. Elegant Gustavia entices with classy goods and glamour hidden away behind restored facades, and the harbour hosts luxury yachts with famous owners.
Beach paradise and pirates’ island: Antigua
The island is said to have exactly 365 fine sandy beaches, one for each day of the year. Nevertheless, in 1493 Columbus still passed Antigua by. Others were more interested: French and English conquerors fought pirates for hegemony until Admiral Nelson secured the island with a naval base. Its old fortifications can still be visited today.
