Croatia Retreat: Lastovo Island

Croatia Retreat: Lastovo Island

From $ 1,355 AUD

Description

Reconnect with nature and enjoy some time unwinding in one of the world’s most idyllic locations – Lastovo. This small Croatian island will remind you of simpler times, where people still catch fresh seafood for dinner and make their own wine using locally grown grapes. Relax on the beaches, only taking a break to dip in the sparkling waters of the Adriatic or wander around the rustic stone port. Aside from its natural beauty, this island was once occupied by the Venetians, meaning the quaint village of Lastovo is home to stunning Venetian architecture. Take some time to wander through it and soak up the history and culture.

Itinerary

ITINERARY CHANGES Our itineraries are updated regularly throughout the year based on customer feedback and to reflect the current situation in each destination. The information included in this Essential Trip Information may therefore differ from when you first booked your trip. It is important that you review this information prior to travel so that you have the latest updates. Due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, public holidays, or other factors, further changes may be necessary to your itinerary once in-country. The order and timing of included activities in each location may also vary seasonally to ensure our travellers have the best experience. Your tour leader will keep you up to date with any such changes once on tour. OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES A selection of optional activities that have been popular with past travellers are listed in the day-to-day itinerary. This isn't an exhaustive list and should be used as a guide only for some of what might be available. Prices are approximate, are for entrance only, and don’t include transport to and from the sites or local guides unless indicated. All activities are subject to availability, and maybe on a join-in basis. It may not be possible to do all the activities listed in the time available at each destination, so some pre-planning for what you are most interested in is advised. When it's recommended that travellers pre-book these activities, look for a note in the Special Information section of the day-to-day itinerary. For most, they can either be organised independently on the day, or let your leader know you are interested in the Group Meeting and they can assist. Where activities are considered medium or high risk, we work with operators whose safety and credentials we have sighted and assessed. Although it is possible that you may find the same activity cheaper with another operator on the ground, we cannot vouch for the safety or quality of that operator. Medium and high-risk activities not listed above have not been assessed by us and as such our staff and leaders are unable to assist you with organising these activities. Activities that contravene our Responsible Travel policies are also not listed. Please remember that the decision to partake in any activity not listed is at your own discretion and risk. MUSEUM VISITS & OPENING TIMES Please note that many sights, attractions and museums are closed on Mondays (and sometimes even Tuesdays). We recommend you carefully consider which sites and museums you are going to want to visit and that you do some research and make your reservations in advance where required/possible.

Day 1 - Split / Lastovo Island
Welcome to Split, the largest city in Croatia’s famous Dalmatia region. If you have time to explore before meeting your group to board the ferry to Lastovo this afternoon, be sure to check out all that this city has to offer. Start with a walking tour of the Old Town of Split, where you’ll find a wealth of bars, restaurants and local shops lining the cobblestoned streets. Two of Split’s most famous attractions are Diocletian’s Palace, home of the 4th-century Roman emperor, and the Cathedral of Saint Domnius. Spend some time admiring these ancient sites and soaking up a little history. If you’ve worked up an appetite with all your sightseeing, the local seafood, pizza, pastries and wine are a food-lovers dream, so stop and enjoy a leisurely lunch before making your way to meet your group and board the ferry to depart for Lastovo. After a three-and-a-half-hour ferry ride, you’ll arrive and transfer to your accommodation in the local village of Zaklopatica. Get to know your group over an included dinner of local fare in the guesthouse`s restaurant, with spectacular views overlooking the bay.
Day 2 - Lastovo Island
Today you’ll rise with the sun, as you’re off on an authentic fishing experience with a local fisherman, his wife and crew. Once aboard the boat, you’ll have the opportunity to help them to bring in the days' catch – usually scorpion fish, mackerel, sardine and bream. But the best bit? You get to enjoy the spoils of your labour with a seafood lunch freshly prepared on board the ship and time to chat with the captain and his wife about life on the island. After lunch, you’ll return to Lastovo and have the rest of the day free to spend it as you see fit. This could range from a relaxing few hours unwinding on the beach or a stroll around the quiet stone waterfront and tiny port of this unique island lost in time.
Day 3 - Lastovo Island
This morning will be a little more relaxed than yesterday, with a few hours free for a sleep in, time to relax on the beach or to go for a walk around the island. This afternoon, you’ll drive to Lastovo Village where you’ll embark on an easy group bike ride into the centre of the island for between two and three hours. Enjoy the untouched, natural landscapes and wave to friendly locals as you pass them from the road. In the evening, you’ll visit a local winery in Lastovo Village where you’ll be treated to a tasting of their homegrown varietals before enjoying a light dinner, complete with local cheeses to accompany the wine.
Day 4 - Lastovo Island
Today will be a full day at sea, experiencing the beauty of the Adriatic, while visiting some of the smaller bays and islands around Lastovo. One of the most popular spots to stop for a swim is Salpun beach, one of the most beautiful areas in the archipelago. Here you can relax on the coast or go for a short stroll and admire views of the old lighthouse on the island. Throughout the day, you’ll stop for several swim breaks in the crystal waters and have plenty of time to relax and socialise on the deck – so be sure to pack a hat and plenty of sunscreen! Enjoy a barbecue lunch on board the boat, before lazing the rest of the afternoon away in paradise. In the evening, you’ll return to Zaklopatica village for dinner at one of the local restaurants
Day 5 - Lastovo Island / Split
This morning you’ll transfer to Ubli town to board the ferry that will take you back to Split, where your Intrepid Retreats experience will come to an end. If you have extra time in Split, be sure to speak to your local host for advice about other attractions or day tours they might recommend.
