Day 3 - Day 3 Honfleur/France
From 13.00 to 19.00 hrsWith its half-timbered houses and winding streets, the coastal city is Normandy’s treasure trove. As the apple trees bear their rich fruit and the sun bathes the green hills and meadows in golden light, autumn is a particularly beautiful time for a scenic tour into the Pays d’Auge*. A walk along the Alabaster Coast to Etretat* is equally stunning, as the route to the small coastal resort takes you past steep cliffs with spectacular views.
Day 4 - Day 4 St Malo
From 8.30 to 18.00 hrsThe fortified city of St Malo is an example of Norman architecture. The monastic island of Mont Saint Michel* seems like a water-borne mountain, floating when the tide comes in and grounded when the water is low. Explore the significance of this UNESCO World Heritage Site as a work of art and place of pilgrimage. The tides also shape life in Cancale – the Breton oyster capital*. The pearl of the emerald coast offers fascinating insights into oyster farms and a wonderful ocean view. The first of your exclusive concerts will emphasise its inspiring charm.
Day 5 - Day 5 Douarnenez
From 12.00 to 18.00 hrsDouarnenez, a new cruise destination, is closely linked with the development of the sardine industry. From here, explore the capital of art, history and legends: take a city walk of Quimper* through streets lined with half-timbered houses and embark on an architectural journey through time – rounded off with the 13th-century Gothic Cathedral of Saint Corentin. Mighty granite rock faces and heathland set the scene for a walk on Cap Sizun*.
Day 6 - Day 6 Lorient
From 8.00 to 17.00 hrsA concert in Lorient will prove just as breathtaking as France’s Atlantic coast. A duet between a medieval citadel and an artists’ village awaits on an excursion to Concarneau and Pont-Aven*. Leaving the impressive island fortress, your journey will take you to a place where Paul Gauguin sought to exchange ideas with other painters. Countless megaliths in Carnac* show just what prehistoric civilisations could do.
Day 7 - Day 7 La Pallice (La Rochelle)
From 8.00 to 17.00 hrsFrom La Pallice, a scenic tour on Ile de Re* takes you to vast beaches, picturesque villages and a historic castle. Alternatively, enjoy a fascinating walking tour through La Rochelle and cognac tasting*. In the old town, learn about the religious wars and the siege by Cardinal Richelieu in the 17th century before discovering the secrets of brandy production in a castle cellar.
Day 8 - Day 8 Bilbao/Spain
From 9.30 to 19.00 hrsSpain’s rhythm is set by the interplay of culture and nature. Marvel at this fascinating symbiosis in Bilbao, home to the Guggenheim Museum. The work of star architect Frank O. Gehry, the museum seems to rise up like a mountain, the undulating facades reminiscent of the rough sea. Impressive natural surroundings await on a walk through the Basque landscape*. Your destination is the small rocky island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the site of a former monastery. On a visit to the wine-growing region of Rioja*, one question will be in everyone’s minds: will this year’s wine be a legendary vintage? Find out for yourself in typical wineries.
Day 9 - Day 9 Gijon
From 8.00 to 17.00 hrsFrom Gijon, you will travel to a region known as the cradle of the Spanish nation. In the eighth century, this was the birthplace of the resistance against Moorish rule. Explore the capital of Asturias: Oviedo*, a place of impressive, faith-inspired works of architecture and art. In the old town of Aviles*, merchants’ houses and baroque palaces stand in contrast to the futuristic architecture of Oscar Niemeyer.
Day 10 - Day 10 La Coruna
From 8.00 to 19.00 hrsVisible from afar, the Roman Tower of Hercules from the second century bears the coat of arms of La Coruna.
