Description
Explore the natural sites and cities steeped in history of the Baltics during this all-new 11-day cruise aboard Le Champlain, between the Baltic Sea and the shores of Iceland.
Your journey will start in the former capital of the tsars, Saint Petersburg. Architectural gems in the Baroque style, churches with domes so elaborate they seem otherworldly, palaces, gardens, canals, and the famous “perspectives” that criss-cross the city: at each street corner of Saint Petersburg, a new theatrical decor is revealed.
You will visit Tallinn, emblematic citie of the Hanseatic League, the large trading network that dominated the Baltic Sea for several centuries. Listed as UNESCO Heritage Site, this once opulent city still have remarkably well-preserved public buildings, merchant houses and warehouses.
Your ship will call in at Gdansk, famous for its amber stone and shipyards, before arriving in Copenhagen, a city of art and history.
Your ship will then head west to reach, in the north of Scotland, the Orkney and the Hebrides Islands, where you will sail in the wake of the Vikings. Kirkwall, the capital of the Orkney Islands off the coast of Scotland, is home to sea birds, gannets, shags, grey petrels and many other animals.
You will finally discover Heimaey, the only inhabited island in the Westmann Islands. Fishing is the main source of income in this exceptional site. You will admire its volcanoes and its almost-desert like landscapes.
Your journey will end in Reykjavik, the most northerly capital in the world.
