Description

Be among the first to sail aboard Le Jacques-Cartier, one of the latest additions to the PONANT fleet, and celebrate its inaugural season during a new 13-day cruise. From London to Stockholm via Saint-Malo and Brest, attend the christening of this brand-new ship and experience the excitement of one of the biggest maritime events in the world, the Brest International Maritime Festival 2020.

Departing from London, Le Jacques Cartier will first head to Saint-Malo, a town famous for the legendary Route du Rhum yacht race. Lose yourself in the diversity of its heritage, stroll along its rampart walks, and fall under the charm of the city of privateers or enjoy a visit to the Mont-Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Your ship will then set sail for the charming island of Brehat, home to lush vegetation protected by the island’s Mediterranean microclimate.

Without a doubt, your stop in Brest will be one of the high points of your cruise. Your ship will dock at port, in the heart of the Brest International Maritime Festival 2020. You will have the best seats in the house to enjoy the events and the buzz of the festival, which gathers the most beautiful vessels in the world, from old sailing ships to the most innovative yachts and the most magnificent historical replicas.

Le Jacques Cartier will then make its way to Boulogne-sur-Mer where, since 2018, the Nausicaá Centre has housed the biggest aquarium in Europe, an exceptional conservation site for marine biodiversity, designed to accommodate species, such as the magnificent manta ray, that are emblematic of the high seas.

You will then sail along the Kiel Canal to reach Stockholm, your disembarkation port, after a stunning early morning sail through the myriad islands making up the archipelago that lies off the edge of the city.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Day 1 LONDON
The main residence of the British monarch, financial hub and seat of British government, London is the economic and cultural heart of the country. A city of contrasts, attached to its traditions while buzzing with modernity, the capital of the United Kingdom has countless historic districts and notable sites to explore. From Hyde Park to the City through Westminster and Trafalgar Square, get ready to take on Londonメs frenetic tempo. In between a visit to the National Gallery, a stroll through Covent Garden and a trip to Tower Bridge, you can take a quiet breather in one of Londonメs many beautiful parks and gardens.
Day 2 - Day 2 AT SEA
During your day at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing. This day without a port of call will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the PONANT photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observe marine species. A truly enchanted interlude, combining comfort, rest and entertainment.
Day 3 - Days 3 - 4 SAINT-MALO
The mere mention of Saint-Malo’s name is enough to plunge us back into the richness of its past. The fortifications stand as testimony to the Malouins’ determination to defend their citadel, fought over by France and Britain in turn. When we drop anchor here, immerse yourself in the diversity of its heritage: the time when privateers sailed the oceans in search of trade and victories; the legendary yacht races the port city is still famous for, such as the Route du Rhum; and the final resting place of the French writer François-René de Chateaubriand, who was born here and chose to be buried here anonymously.
Day 4 - Day 5 BRÉHAT ISLAND
The island of Bréhat, which has banned cars from its streets, became France’s first classified natural site in 1907. As it’s 3.5 km long and 1.5 km wide, you’ll appreciate visiting it on foot for a change of scenery, one imbued with the maritime and military history which marked it from the Middle Ages. Its nickname is the Island of Flowers for the variety of its flora with agaves, echium, hydrangea, mimosa, mulberry trees, eucalyptus, aloes, camellias and the emblematic agapanthus. All year round, it enjoys the influence of the Gulf Stream which gives it a particularly mild microclimate, even in winter. It’s also a paradise for birds, with 120 different species identified.

In Gamla stan, meaning “old town” in Swedish, you can stroll at your leisure in picturesque medieval streets until you reach the majestic Royal Palace. On the green island of Djurgården, you can visit several very different kinds of cultural centres: the Vasa museum is dedicated to a 17th century three-mast, the ecomuseum of Skansen presents traditional customs, and the ABBA museum is dedicated to the legendary pop group. For a fantastic, all-encompassing view of Stockholm, you can take a ride in SkyView, a glass-encased sphere gondola that takes you to the top of the world’s largest building, the Ericsson Globe, a Stockholm landmark.
