Here at Wild Earth Travel we are excited to bring you our “Food and Wine of Otago” self-drive trip.

Explore Dunedin on your day of arrival, check into Larnach castle and enjoy a tour of the castle, garden and grounds. On day two you will make your way to Clyde, stopping on the way enjoy lunch at Fleur’s Place in Moeraki. The second half of your journey will be spent in the Gibbston Valley, in the heart of Central Otago. Enjoy visiting vineyards and dining at some of the top restaurants.

Itinerary



Day 1 - Day 1: Dunedin
Arrive in Dunedin and collect your car, check into Larnach Castle at your leisure. You will staying in the Cape Estate, a glamourous country house, 500 metres from the castle gate. Your stay includes a tour of Larnach Castle including the garden and grounds. The remainder of the day is at your leisure, perhaps take a drive out to the Otago Peninsula or explore the city centre. On return to Camp Estate you will enjoy all included pre-dinner drinks, canapés and a 3 course dinner.
Day 2 - Day 2: Dunedin to Clyde with lunch in Moeraki
Enjoy a cooked or continental breakfast at Cape Estate before you depart for the day. You will stop at the charming fishing village of Moeraki for lunch at Fleurs Place, enjoy fresh fish straight from the sea as you enjoy the view of the Moeraki harbour. You will continue your drive to Clyde and check into your accommodation Olivers. The historic Olivers lodge is a stone complex, located in Clyde’s historic precinct. You will enjoy a three course dinner at the Olivers Restaurant, enjoy superb local produce and a memorable experience.
Day 3 - Day 3: Clyde to Gibbston Valley
Enjoy your breakfast in Clyde at the Oliver’s Restaurant before you make your short drive to Gibbston Valley Lodge and Spa. Check in to your accommodation and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. With Arrowtown and Queenstown less than a 30 minute drive away and Wanaka an hour’s drive, there is plenty for you to see and do! Tonight you will enjoy dinner Amisfield. With their philosophy of celebrating the best of what’s local and in season you will enjoy world-class food with an array of wines. Their ethos is to eat seasonally, as nature intended. Sophisticated, inventively present dishes are designed using classic techniques with a creative twist to bring out the best of the locally sourced, seasonal produce.
Day 4 - Day 4: Whiskey and Wine Tour
Today you will enjoy a private whiskey and wine tour throughout the region. This is a tour for either the fine spirit connoisseur or those simply curious to taste and learn. You will experience the Cardrona Distillery with a tour and tasting in the world’s most southernmost whiskey-making facility and the only one in New Zealand to allow visitors to get up close and personal with the distilling process. Enjoy many photo stops including the iconic Cardona pub and enjoy a platter lunch at a vineyard restaurant within the Gibbston region.
Day 5 - Day 5: Check out Queenstown
Check out of the Gibbston Valley Lodge and Spa and return your car to the Queenstown Airport.
