Description

Our 6-night route runs around the largest, seahorse-shaped island of Isabela, where nature seems to hunt for the greatest. Explore the virtually untouched western end of the Galapagos, which has just been born out of fire. You are just in time for the first thrilling chapters of evolution! Uncover the mystery of how tough pioneer species make barren lava fields habitable; and approach bizarre outgrowths of adaptation such as marine iguanas and flightless cormorants. It’s true that accessing this remote and isolated region requires longer navigation (mainly overnight), but our stable mega-catamaran enables you to witness ‘survival of the fittest’, without experiencing it.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Day 1 Arrival Baltra Airport & Charles Darwin Research station
At Baltra Airport you will have to pay your Galapagos National Park entrance fee and your luggage will be inspected. The most memorable part of the Charles Darwin Research Station will probably be the successful breeding centre and its celebrity ‘Lonesome George’.
Day 2 - Day 2 Whitetip Reef Shark Canal & Tortoise Breeding Centre
This group of jagged rocky islets just off the coast of Puerto Villamil forms one of the most stereotypical sites of the Galapagos. In the Arnaldo Tupiza breeding centre you can see hundreds of giant Galapagos tortoises of all sizes (the vulnerable hatchlings are not gigantic at all, even smaller than the size of your hand)!
Day 3 - Day 3 Moreno Point (Isabela) & Elizabeth Bay (Isabela)
Fresh, promising greens of pioneer vegetation contrast strongly with the dead, pitch-black lava flow that once reached the ocean at Moreno Point. At the remote Elizabeth Bay you will undertake the best dinghy-ride of Galapagos, which combines a visit to the Marielas Islets in the mouth of the bay, with the highest mangles in its innermost heart.
Day 4 - Day 4 Espinoza Point (Fernandina) & Urbina Bay
Westernmost Fernandina harbours one of the world’s most virgin, untouched ecosystems, and is another crown jewel of the Galapagos. On Isabela nature seems to hunt for the largest. The exceptional coastal plain at Urbina Bay attracts prehistoric giants in the very wild, such as the largest land and marine iguanas.
Day 5 - Day 5 Espumilla Beach (Santiago) & Puerto Egas (Santiago)
Espumilla Beach is a visitor’s site at the northern end of James Bay. This beach has been revived as an important breeding site for turtles, as it is no longer suffering from digging wild pigs. Puerto Egas is historical, and the favourite site on Santiago for wildlife lovers; and it’s even the best place in the archipelago to observe Galapagos fur seals,
Day 6 - Day 6 Lobos Islet (San Cristóbal) & Transfer to San Cristóbal Airport
The Asylum of Peace hike goes past a mesmerising cave and visits a fascinating freshwater spring. La Loberia beach is an ideal spot to enjoy the ocean, as well as the playful sea lions that live there. Assisted by the naturalist guide and some crew members, the dinghy will bring you and your luggage to San Cristóbal, where we will take the airport shuttle. Your guide will accompany you to the check-in counters in the departure hall. You will return home with stunning pictures and unforgettable lifelong memories!
