Beluga offers the options of a 4 day, 6 day and 8 day itineraries that visit selected sites which are approved by the National Park; each of these is unique, rich and varied and offers the opportunity to experience the Galapagos up close and personal with a small group led by a highly experienced naturalist guide. The itineraries can be combined to form a 15-day itinerary that we highly recommend for those travelers that would like to have a complete, in-depth experience of the Galapagos Islands.

Itinerary



Day 1 - Day 1 - Fly to the Islands, tour Santa Cruz
You catch your early flight from Quito or Guayaquil arriving at Baltra airport about 10h00 am. Santa Cruz Island (Indefatigable) - it is the second largest island of the archipelago and although the most populated of the islands it still offers remote areas where you are in deep National Park territory. Dragon Hill (Northwest part of Santa Cruz Island) Activities: land visit, snorkelling Landing: wetlanding Fauna and flora: Land iguana nesting spots, flamingoes, common stilts, palo santo trees and cacti forest
Day 2 - Day 2 –Saturday - Santa Fé Island & South Plaza Island
Santa Fé Island (Barrington) Activities: land visit, snorkelling Landing: wetlanding Fauna and flora: Santa Fe land iguana, sea lions, pelican nesting sites, mockingbird, Palo Santo trees and cacti forest South Plaza Island Activities: land visit Landing: drylanding Fauna and flora: Land iguanas, marine iguanas, tropic birds and gulls, one of the largest colony of sea lions, opuntia forest, Sesuvium plant
Day 3 - Day 3 – Sunday - San Cristóbal Island (Chatham Island) & Kicker Rock & Pto Baquerizo Moreno
Activities: snorkelling & short dinghy ride Landing: no landing Fauna and flora: sharks, tropical fish and the view of blue-footed boobies and Nazca boobies as well as the frigatebirds. Witch Hill Activities: land visit and possible snorkelling opportunity Landing: wetlanding Fauna and flora: sea lions, shore birds, finches, mockingbirds, pelicans, blue-footed boobies and marine iguanas Pto Baquerizo Moreno (capital of the Province of Galapagos) Activities: land visit Landing: drylanding Fauna and flora: frigate birds, finches and local vegetation
Day 4 - Day 4 – Monday - Española Island (Hood) & Gardner Bay & Punta Suarez
Gardner Bay Activities: land visit, snorkelling, kayaking, swimming at the beach Landing: wetlanding Fauna and flora: sea lions, mockingbirds, while snorkelling tropical fish, sharks, sea lion nursery Islote Gardner and Islote Osborn Activities: snorkeling and swimming - no land visit These islets are snorkeling sites where visitors will see an abundance of tropical fish, reef sharks, turtles and a few hammerheads. Punta Suarez (dry landing – depending on swell it can be a wet landing) Activities: land visit - rocky path - although flat bring some good shoes for this walk if you have a walking stick I recommend bringing it on this walk. Landing: drylanding - debatable at times from personal experience
Day 5 - Day 5 – Tuesday - Santa Cruz Island & Puerto Ayora & Charles Darwin Station
Highlands of Santa Cruz Activities: land visit, highlands Landing: not applicable Fauna and flora: Galapagos duck, Galapagos tortoise in the wild, finches
Day 6 - Day 6 – Wednesday - Sombrero Chino & Santiago Island & Sullivan Bay
Sombrero Chino (Chinese Hat) Activities: land visit, snorkelling, dinghy ride Landing: wetlanding Fauna and flora: Galapagos Hawk, sea lions, penguins, lizards, tropical marine life, sea turtles (possibility), sally-lightfoot crabs, tropical fish Santiago Island is located between Isabela and Santa Cruz Islands. This Island offers a wide variety fauna – however not at your visitor siteSullivan Bay Activities: land visit, snorkelling Landing: wetlanding This site is a lava field visit for geological purposes please wear good walking shoes and if you have walking stick the better, here we take in the different types of lava formations
Day 7 - Day 7 – Thursday - Genovesa Island (Tower) & El Barranco - Phillip’s Steps (dry landing)
Genovesa Island (Tower): Genovesa is an eroded flat volcanic island, with a natural harbor, which is actually the submerged caldera of this volcanic island. After breakfast you will visit Darwin Bay – then have a snorkel after that site visit. The snorkel is short but from the beach. After lunch on board you will visit El Barranco – Prince Phillips Steps. You will do another snorkel – usually before lunch or an hour or two after lunch and before the Barranco visit. This will depend on group guide and conditions. Darwin Bay (wet landing) Activities: land visit, snorkelling Landing: wetlanding Fauna and flora: Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, swallow-tailed gulls, mangroves, for snorkeling reef fish and hammerhead sharks Activities: land visit, dinghy ride Landing: drylanding - one of the more challenging landings Fauna and flora: Short-eared lava owl, storm-petrels, Galapagos doves, during dinghy ride possible to see Galapagos fur seal.
Day 8 - Day 8 – Friday - Caleta Tortuga - Baltra (changeover day)
Very early visit in the dinghy through the mangroves of Turtle Cove on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island. Caleta Tortuga (Turtle Cove) - northern coast of Santa Cruz Island Activities: dinghy ride Landing: no landing Fauna and flora: Hammerhead baby sharks, rays, sea turtles, sea birds that nest in mangroves. Turtle Cove is a red mangrove lagoon on Santa Cruz and a perfect example of how mangroves alter the marine environment to create a rich and unique habitat. Various activities for clients today to choose from
Day 9 - Day 9 –Saturday -Floreana Island - Post Office Bay
Floreana Island (Charles): Floreana is best known for its colorful history of buccaneers, whalers, convicts, and early colonists. You will wake up in Cormorant Bay and have the view of the island with the longest human history plus the snorkeling highlight - Devil’s Crown. Punta Cormorant Activities: land visit and possible snorkeling opportunity (only at the beach of landing - no swimming on the white sand beach) Landing: wetlanding Fauna and flora: flamingos
Day 10 - Day 10 –Sunday- Isabela Island
Isabela Island (Albemarle): the largest of the Galapagos Islands formed by five active volcanoes fused together. Wolf Volcano is the highest point in the entire Galapagos at 1707m. Here you will awake on the southern coast of the largest island in a port called Puerto Villamil - there is a $10 fee per person for use of the dock that all guests must pay. After breakfast you will take a bus up to visit Sierra Negra. You leave at about 8h30 am and the ride take about 40 minutes long. Up near the caldera you are dropped off at the point called “El Cura” (the priest) and then hike up for another 30 - 40 minutes to the crater.
Day 11 - Day 11 – Monday- Isabela Island
Isabela Island (Albemarle): You will wake up on the northwest coast of the Sierra Negra (you visited the day before). After breakfast you will then head ashore about 8h30 that morning for a walk along the lava field recommend walking sticks. You will have much more wildlife to view on this lava field than most. Punta Moreno Activities: land visit, snorkeling and dinghy ride Landing: drylanding one of the more challenging ones Highlights: Flamingos, pintail ducks, reef sharks, pelicans, herons Punta Moreno is located in the central southwestern coast of Isabela Island. The site has spectacular views of volcanoes Alcedo, Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul. Some highlights include impressive lava flows, desolate and pristine landscape, varied and unusual arid zone vegetation. During lunch we will move boat over to Elizabeth Bay about a two hour journey - time to take in the scenery or a siesta.
Day 12 - Day 12 – Tuesday-Isabela Island
Urbina Bay Activities: land visit and snorkeling Landing: wetlanding - one of the easier ones Highlights: largest land iguanas of the islands, Galapagos tortoises in the wild, hawks, coral reef, and while snorkeling, sea turtles and rays Urbina Bay is located at the central-west coast of Isabela Island at the foothills of Alcedo and Darwin volcanoes. Highlights include the colourful land iguanas, Galapagos Giant tortoises and the coral uplifting from 1954.
Day 13 - Day 13 –Wednesday- Fernandina Island
Punta Espinoza Activities: land visit and snorkeling Landing: drylanding (can be slippery) Highlights: Flightless cormorant, penguin, Galapagos hawk, Galapagos snake, marine iguanas, la Cumbre active volcano in the distance Isabela Island (Albemarle) Punta Vicente Roca Activities: dinghy ride and snorkeling Landing: no landing allowed just snorkeling and dinghy ride Highlights: Sea turtles, reef sharks, penguins, sea lions, marine iguanas, Nasca boobies, blue-footed boobies and flightless cormorants - rarely some dolphins visit
Day 14 - Day 14- Thursday - Santiago Island
Santiago Island (James): This Island is located between Isabela and Santa Cruz Islands. This Island offers a wide variety of seabirds, marine iguanas and fur seals. Puerto Egas Activities: land visit and snorkeling Landing: wetlanding Highlights: Fur seals, sea lions, tidal pools, hawks, oystercatchers, marine iguanas, finches, reef sharks, underwater formations Bartolome Island (Bartholomew) Activities: land visit, many stairs to walk up to the top of Bartolome, snorkeling Landing: drylanding when visiting the highest point and then wet-landing on the beach Highlights: volcanic formations, stunning views, penguins, sea lions, tropical fish
Day 15 - Day 15- Friday - North Seymour - Baltra - Fly back to the mainland
North Seymour Activities: land visit trail walk for an hour Landing: drylanding Highlights: Frigate birds, blue-footed boobies, sea lions, swallow tailed gulls, Galapagos snake This flat piece of land originated after an uplifting event thousands of years ago. The island is home to endemic Palo Santo trees, colonies of blue-footed boobies, swallow tailed gulls, and magnificent frigate birds.
